Troop 734 is dedicated to helping our boys grow to be great men, in the spirit of scouting's twelve point Law: A scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

    • Please be sure to get your medical forms and a copy of your insurance card turned into Mrs. Kirke ASAP!
    • This is the last night to order t-shirts - if you're interested, please let Mrs. Kirke know.
    • Island getaway notes:SouthBassIsland1
      • Roster, menu planning & tent assignments happened tonight.
      • If you don't want to carry your gear, make sure it gets on the trailer.  It'll be in the Church parking lot Thursday night from 6-7 for those leaving with the late group.
      • There will be two traveling groups: the first group will meet at the Church at 12:30, leaving at 1 -- this group will have the trailer.  This group will stop for some sort of dinner, so bring some extra $$$ for dinner.
      • The second group will meet at the Church at 4, and leaves at 4:30.  This group isn't stopping for dinner, so be sure to eat before you leave or pack a sandwich or something to eat along the way.
      • You may want to bring swimming suits (though it'll be chilly) or fishing rods (and license if you're 16 or over).
      • We'll have a couple of Webelos along (keep these in mind for planning purposes).

Meeting Notes - June 1

  • Tonight's program Patrol: Pedros; Scout skill: flag etiquette; class-B color: Red
  • Next week's program Patrol: Wolves; Scout skill: First Aid; class-B color: Orange
  • Upcoming events:

    • The Island Getaway camping trip is coming up.  Mr. Hansford passed out permission slips tonight, and we got a preliminary head-count.  Some of our normal trip procedures are going to change for this trip, so please pay attention to announcements as this campout approaches:puttputt
      • We're going to try to leave by 4:30 on Friday, instead of our normal 6:30.  Last year, we just barely made the last ferry over to the island.  We don't want that to happen, because we'll be camping in the parking lot!
      • We'll announce the time that we expect to start loading the trailer. This will be important for everyone -- even those who are driving up -- because you definitely want your personal gear loaded onto the trailer. Failure to do so will mean that you're packing it all onto the ferry and over to the far side of the island (by foot!)
      • Grub fee will be a little higher for this trip because we have to pay for the ferry trip for our truck and trailer.
      • Plan on bringing some spending money for attractions on the island (we may try to get in a round of putt-putt golf, for instance).
    • This is the last week for t-shirt orders, and this time we mean it!  If you'd like a set of these awesome shirts, please contact Mrs. Kirke post-haste.
    • Citizenship in the Nation classes with Mr. Pearsall begin this Wednesday.  Meet at the Church at 7, and plan on around an hour per class.  We'll meet for the next three weeks.
    • Welcome to summer and our summertime class-B dress code!  Please watch announcements for the color of the week so we can achieve a modicum of uniformity.

Meeting Notes - May 18

  • Tonight's program Patrol: Jalapeno's;  Scout skills: poisonous plants, map symbols, and First Class knots.
  • Next week - no meeting (Memorial Day).
  • Next meeting (June 1) - program Patrol: Taco Bellers; Scout skills: flag etiquette.
  • Upcoming events
  • Announcements flag_raising
    • Mr. Bryan distributed lists of partial merit badges to the boys, along with a list of badges offered at summer camp.  The boys can use these lists to plan the badges they'll be working on this summer - let's get those partials cleaned up!
    • Congratulations to Kevin Lines and Bob Bryan -- they've both been recognized by the District.  Both men received the Bridgebuilder award, and Mr. Lines received the Lamplighter award.
    • We have an updated list of current merit badge books posted with our library.  If you've got a question about whether your merit badge books are current, please see this list.
    • Watch for an email from Mr. Lines about helping with Flag placement ceremonies this Saturday morning.
    • The shooting campout was a huge success again, but did you know that we have Mr. Crabtree to thank for providing the ammunition for this event?  Please be sure to thank Mr. Crabtree if you shot at the campout - we shot over 11,000 rounds last weekend!
    • Island Getaway - South Bass Island.  We need to leave a bit early on Friday - we almost didn't make the last ferry over to the island last year.  Bring a few extra bucks along - we may have a chance to go to an amusement / putt-putt attraction.  There's also an chance that we might be able to do some mountain biking, depending on transportation arrangements.
    • The Buckeye Cub Scout day camp could use some help this summer.  The camp is the same week that we're going to summer camp, but if you're not going to summer camp, please consider helping - they're expecting 300+ Cub Scouts.  Also, please collect empty TP rolls and paper towel tubes - they need these for crafts.
    • We had a representative here from Class Six to talk about our upcoming whitewater trip.  Our whitewater trips have always been a blast, and he's assured us that there's a lot of new stuff to enjoy, too, like:
      • Whitewater merit badge
      • Kayaking merit badge
      • Canopy & zipline trip
      • Paintball course
      • Be sure to check out the web site!
