marengo1 Congratulations to all the Scouts and adults who attended this weekend’s trip to Marengo Cave.  We had a great time!  If you’re not sure caving is for you, here are some clues:

  • If you dig being underground, anywhere from 17 to 200 feet, you’d probably like caving.
  • If you like crawling though holes so small you have to turn your head to fit, you’d definitely have had a good time.
  • If you like crawling though mud, you would have had a blast.
  • If you like wading through 52-degree water while bending over at the waist, you’ve got the right stuff for caving.
  • If you want to do all of these at the same time, you were made for this place!

Thanks to Mrs. Kirke for an outstanding job organizing the trip and taking care of us cavers this weekend, and congratulations to Reeve and Kyle, who did a great job leading the Troop this weekend.

  • Tonight’s program Patrol: Wolves; Scout skills: knots & lashings.
  • Next week’s program Patrol: Froggies; Scout skills: poisonous plants, PFAK, cold-weather camping.
  • Upcoming events:
  • Announcements:
    • For those who went on the campout this weekend, if you’re working on Citizenship in the Nation and need to visit a National Landmark to fulfill requirement 2, this weekend’s trip counts!
    • Congratulations to Jim Janek, who recently completed his Greenbar training.
    • Mr. Kolker informed the boys that he can provide a printed status of the advancement information shown in Troopmaster for each Scout.  As a reminder, Scouts, it’s your responsibility to get your Blue Card from your counselor when you complete a Merit Badge and get that card turned in to Mr. Kolker or Mr. Cooper so that it can be recorded.  This is also how we drive the presentation of badges at each Court of Honor.
    • Den Chiefs: please report to your Senior Patrol Leader so we have a record of this leadership position.  Scouts, you all need to have experience in leadership positions to advance in rank, so it’s important that your service is officially recorded.
    • There is a handout available (at the Troop meeting) that summarizes changes in requirements from the current Scout Handbook to the new one (effective January 1, 2010).  If you’re not yet an Eagle Scout (that’s most of you!), these changes will impact you, so please review them.
