Troop 734 is dedicated to helping our boys grow to be great men, in the spirit of scouting's twelve point Law: A scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

To all Scouts and Scouters

Thank you for the Get-Well cards.  The operation was a success.  I can't wait  to see everyone next Monday. I'm hoping that my next campout will be in December.  I heard that everyone survived the October campout.

Thanks, aagain
Scott Lane

Troop Notes - Oct 29, 2007

Upcoming events:

  • Nov 9-11 - Cleveland campout (Gerry)
    • Camp Firelands - approx 20-25 mi SouthWest of downtown.
    • We're going to the Great Lakes Science Center.
    • Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Oct 15 troop notes

Upcoming events:

  • 11/5/2007 - prep hike (tentative - Jim Martin is working on this).
  • 11/9 - 11/11 - Cleveland campout
    • Choices:
      • Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
      • Museum of Natural History
  • Camp Lazarus - need volunteers for this weekend (adults and kids) to help with haunted Halloween.  They need help with haunting, parking, and running games.  We believe they'll need help next weekend, too.
  • Tonight - final voting for 2008 activities.  Write-in votes are allowed, as long as they can be read!
  • Popcorn - we've still got openings for the next couple weekends.  We can still exchange popcorn, but the supplies are starting to dwindle, so act fast!
  • Early news - there's a science merit badge day in the planning stages for sometime in February - this will probably be at COSI.  If you're a merit badge counselor and you're interested in volunteering, please let us know.

Anyone want to see some warbirds?

There's an airshow down at Rickenbacker Airport Sept 27-30. This is somewhat of a "big deal" as far as WWII airshows goes. The last time an event like this was held was in Kissimmee, Florida in 1999. They're expecting over 100 P-51 Mustangs to make the fly-in, with 51 Legends (pilots & crew). Besides the Mustangs, they're expecting some other WWII warbirds, and the USAF Thunderbirds will fly an air show, too.

Troop Notes - Sept 10

Notes from tonight's troop meeting:

  • Our next campout is Wilderness Survival - Oct 5-7.
  • Next Philmont prep hike will be September 16. Hikers will be heading down to the Hocking Hills (Ash Cave), leaving Hilliard around noon. Contact Mr. Pearsall if you're interested.
  • Thanks to everyone for your hard work preparing for the shooting campout. The outing went well despite a vigorous "Coopering" (That's 734-slang for rain, in case you haven't seen the Rain God in action lately).
  • This Saturday (Sept 15), there's an opportunity for some service hours helping prepare for a band invitational at Darby High School. Please contact Mr. Cooper for info on this if you want to help. He'll be the one under the umbrella.
  • Also this Saturday is a Life to Eagle seminar for Life (and near-Life) scouts and their parents. See the Buckeye District web page for more info on this.
  • The Popcorn sale is coming up soon. We'll be selling beginning as early as Sept 29, so get ready!
  • Fish and Wildlife Management merit badge at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This sounds like a cool program, and it sounds like it fills up very quickly, so if you have any interest you should probably act fast. The program is on Sunday, Oct. 21, and registration opened on Sept. 4.

October Campout: Wilderness Survival

Are you ready to play "Survivor: Otter Run"? The October campout will take us to Camp Otter Run on October 5-7.  Watch this space for more details as they're available.  In the mean time, here are a couple of Survival links to whet your appetites.

Shooting Campout - Sept 7-9

It's time for the shooting campout again! This is one of the most anticipated camps of the year, and everyone always has fun. Here's what's planned this year:

  • Sept 7 – meet @ church @ 6:00pm – leave at 6:30. We're planning on being back Sunday around 1:30.
  • We're camping at Falling Rock between the shooting range and the climbing tower. There's a fundraiser there this weekend, so we're not in our usual spot in the pines. Instead of parking in the lot, we'll go past the climbing wall, and we’ll take the road to the right and park. The boys won’t have to carry their stuff very far.
  • Bring your normal camping equipment - nothing special is needed.
  • We’ll be shooting .22 cal rifles, 12, 16, or 20-gauge shotguns (if they want). Boys 14-and older may be able to shoot some other weapons if they're available.
  • Boys can complete the shooting requirements for rifle and shotgun. They’ll have to complete academic portions when they get home.
  • Bring cans or plastic bottles for targets.

Troop Notes - Aug 27, 2007

  • No meeting next Monday – we're off for Labor Day.
  • Since we won't meet on Monday, we did camp planning for shooting campout this Monday (Aug 27). Please let us know if you'll be camping so we can plan for you to be along.
  • We’re back in school, so wear Class-A’s to meetings, please!
  • The race this weekend went great – thanks to all who participated.
